What is Rosefinch?

Rosefinch, also known as "Zhu Que"(Öìȸ), is a mythic creature that looks like a Phoenix. It is the God in control of the Southern stars and the insignia of the Emperor's best educated civil officials.

In Chinese ancient time, the sky was divided into the North, South, East and West four palaces. There were four Gods living in each of the four palaces: Tsing Lung (black dragon, the God of the East), the White Tiger (the God of the West), Rosefinch (the God for the South) and Black (a turtle God in control of the north).

As a God in control of the Southern stars, Rosefinch represents culture, civilization, virtue and fairness. Therefore, the Rosefinch insignia was a uniform decoration worn by the Emperor¡¯s best-educated civil officials.
